There is significant value in knowing a discipline from the ground up. Starting as a subcontractor in the 1970’s, Greg Thomas learned that side of construction before moving on to general contracting as an estimator and project manager in 1982. Having a good grasp of that side of the industry, Greg began providing consulting services to architects in 1994. This hands-on experience in the field and the office provided a firm foundation on which to build his service. With eighteen years in construction and 21 years as a cost consultant, Greg and his associates are an important part of a project design team.
Much has changed in 21 years–cost estimating is a blend of art and science and Thomas Consulting has striven to stay on the leading edge of both. Understanding a project’s unique features, knowing the market and locale, schedule, escalation rates, workloads, delivery methods and communication with the team members… this is the art. The science starts with knowing the process, utilizing the latest technology such as BIM and Autocad, and staying abreast of current codes. Coupling this with the company’s comprehensive database results in that exceptional combination of art and science, enabling us to provide real value to your client.
Then there’s community… Thomas Consulting understands how vital relationship and sponsorship is with the architectural profession and the construction industry. To that end, we are actively involved as allied members of AIA Spokane and the AGC Inland Northwest Chapter. Part of our income goes back to the community in support of area non-profits and ministries.
